About

We are Sarah Löcker, Jana Grabner, and Andreas Löcker. We love art, meeting up with other artists and enjoying the city we live in.

In 2018 we founded the Urbans Sketchers Graz regional chapter. We are looking forward to building up a network of sketching enthusiasts here in Graz. As we are an official chapter of Urban Sketchers international, therefore we abide by their criteria seen below, such as not drawing from photos but from direct observation.

Here you can see some of our sketchers’ work in our Intagram feed:

We are an open collective, all drawing levels are welcome and all meet ups are free of charge. Bring your own art materials and sketch books and have fun artistically exploring Graz and Styria with us!

Urban Sketchers Manifesto:

  1. We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
  2. Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.
  3. Our drawings are a record of time and place.
  4. We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
  5. We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.
  6. We support each other and draw together.
  7. We share our drawings online.
  8. We show the world, one drawing at a time.

Furthermore ideally Urban Sketches mostly show their subjects in context, such a person and its surroundings (café, park, street, …) or and object and its sourroundings (table, room, private oder public space, …). But as we are filling our sketchbooks with various drawings, we are not that strict about it 😉 This should just help you get a feel of what distinguishes Urban Sketches from other drawings and art works.
